I have read some of Dorothy Morrison's non-fiction work and enjoyed herapproach and style. But there is often a difference between "teaching" and"storytelling" so I was looking forward to this book. I was NOTdisappointed. Ms. Morrison's talents are equally at play in each genre.

I love well crafted (if you will pardon the pun) fiction by peoplecomfortable with the Pagan life. Too many authors make a character'sreligious belief the center point of an otherwise pedestrian story. That isnot a problem on either count with this book. The religious beliefs, although important to the development of the storyline, are not dominating;and the story is anything but pedestrian. The pacing is excellent; thecharacters are thoroughly believable (and enjoyable); and the plot is not sooutrageous that it is an insult to the intelligence of the reader.

I won't comment on the few glitches I found in this book, as it is stillundergoing revision and formatting (This review is based on uncorrectedproofs). I also can't tell you what it will cost you when it is publishedin early October, as the price hasn't been determined at this point.

What I can tell you are the following items: First, it is a fun book. Idon't mean that it is sweetness and light. It definitely has a darker side, but it is not depressing. Second, it is obvious from the ending that thisis only the beginning. There are more stories to tell involving thesecharacters (and I am sure Ms. Morrison will be telling them over the nextseveral years). And, finally, that whatever the price ends up being, itwill be worth the cost. WillowTree Press consistently produces highquality books by authors who know what the reader wants and needs.

As noted in the header at the start of the review, this book is scheduledfor release in early October 2008. Look for it in your local bookstore, orvisit WillowTree's website and save yourself a trip. And while you arethere, you may want to look at the Rowan Gant Investigations series by M. R. Sellars, another excellent fiction series.

Something witchy this way comes….okay corny, but true! Lucinda's Web is pagan author Dorothy Morrison's first foray into paranormal fiction. Admittedly, I am a long time fan of Morrison's occult books that she is known for world wide. Several of which have graced my bookshelves for years. Imagine my delight when a favorite pagan author's newest book showed up on my doorstep. Almost like magic…okay okay, it was the UPS guy who brought it, but still!

The main protagonist Tess Logan is a tough as nails, somewhat ball busting witch who's doing her best to make her way in the world as an author. I think books by authors with characters who are authors are pretty interesting. It is a great way to start out writing fiction in some respects because, hey, as an author, you know the material. Besides the fact that Dorothy Morrison knows magic inside and out, so the two elements combined together make for quite an irresistible tale.

Tess smokes like a chimney and drinks coffee in copious amounts. She's even got a coffee maker next to her bed. Now that is my kind of heroine! Okay, maybe not the smoking, but the fact she lives her life to the fullest, the way most of us think about living it on the inside. That is to say Tess does it her way or no way, and you sure the hell don't tell this lady no, OR insult her intelligence. As poor Luke Benson finds out at their first meeting. I bet his butt is still aching from that kicking it took. *he he*

I have to say that this storyline is very complex and has LOTS of layers. So many that at one point I became lost and confused when the story began to be told from the different characters points of view. That transition could have been a bit smoother in my opinion. Yet the storyline was utterly fascinating to me, so much so that I hung in there. There are ghosts, lucid dreaming, magic, reincarnation at it's extreme, hoodoo (a topic near and dear to my heart), clairvoyance, action, mystery and intrigue, well, a whole WEB of things going on. I thought I had things figured out towards the end, but Ms. Morrison tricked me! Can you believe it? The nerve. LOL

All in all, I think Lucinda's Web is an excellent first attempt at capturing some of the paranormal fiction genre fan base and very well written. I am really looking forward to more adventures of Tess Logan and her funny cast of secondary characters. If you are looking for something fresh, different and that will make you sit up and pay attention, then this is a must read for paranormal fans far and wide.

    Bitten by Books

An intriguing debut novel from an established non-fiction writer. This compelling modern gothic is filled with magic, discovery and a century-old love story.

"Lucinda's Web" is set in a small town in Missouri, and features Tess Logan, a single, self-assured modern woman. A something something High Priestess, she is also a thoroughly modern Witch. After moving into a new home across from an antebellum cemetery, Tess is ensnared in a set of spells over one hundred years old. It will take all her knowledge and experience, plus the help of a quirky set of characters - both alive and passed - to untangle the strands without destroying everyone touched by the web.

There is something for every fan of paranormal mystery and romance in "Lucinda's Web." The plot centers around spells cast with old magic, and Ms. Morrison weaves in characters who each have been touched by it, plus hold a key to the unraveling of it. Throw in a new love interest, old and new friends, and you're off on a roller coaster ride of passion, humor, magic and disturbing flashbacks. To keep with the true gothic roots of this fascinating story, the ending offers a dark twist.

Considering "Lucinda's Web" is the first foray into fiction for Ms. Morrison, it shows much promise for future novels. I was puzzled by many mentions of smoking, though, and rather expected that to have some sort of magical import. All in all, an intriguing work of fiction from a well-respected author.

If you're in the mood for delicious mystery, history and lore, magickal methods and spooky spirits Lucinda's Web is just for you.

Who better than Dorothy Morrison to take you into a spellbinding plot of interesting, creative characters you can fall in love with? I was so drawn into the story and these complex people Dorothy allowed me to meet, I really did not want the book to end. On the last page I cried out loud "no-ooo" for I just wanted the story to somehow keep going.

I sincerely hope Tess Logan has many, many adventures and that you take us with her, Dorothy....

Great job - and Thank you!
